What else can you do while waiting for the first visit to our country of the authentic doom band? All the songs are listened to hundreds of times, lyrics are learnt by heart, tickets are bought. Why not reading another interview?

MH: Hi, Erkki! Thanks for joining us.
Erkki: You're welcome. And thank you – I hope readers will find it interesting!

MH: There's a literary technique, when one uses the real places' names in order to make the whole story more credible for a reader. Don't you do the same choosing cities as setting for "Курск" tracks?
Erkki: Sometimes the author visits places mentioned only in one's head, fantasizing or dreaming. Same happened, for example, in the song "Белорусский снег" ["Belarusian snow"], since the upcoming show will be the first one in your country. But it's quite frequent that you compose lyrics based on a real thing. It's also possible. For instance I've already visited Tula mentioned in "Воскресенье" track several times. I also visited Baikal. So yes, sure it's a literary technique, but mostly plot is related to my thoughts.

MH: What's your attitude towards music collaborations? Maybe you've got an idea whose name would perfectly fit the new album of "Курск"?
Erkki: We've already invited one female vocalist for the latest album – Anna Jousne from Petrozavodsk. We did it because we needed female vocals for the song. I also took part in other bands' albums as a guest vocalist sometimes, so I don't mind collaborations. But there should be a reason - an inspiration.

MH: Here’s another idea for you – “geographical” collaboration. And the genre doesn’t actually matter, be it guys from such bands as Minsk, IOWA, Hollywood Undead, etc. Take it for free. :)
Erkki: Hah, thanks for the proposal, but I guess it won’t be in demand!

MH: How do you think, should the things you create speak for themselves, or you don’t mind endlessly explaining the background of each track with every interview?
Erkki: Creations talk to the ones who are able to understand them. Sure, I’m always ready to discuss my lyrics, but the answers are going to be different with each interview.

MH: “Курск” is tipped to get its place in the music history. How do you think, what it’s possible the first place for?
Erkki: Really? Haven’t heard of it… But I‘d like it to be remembered for an authentic sound, original style, and for the fact that we did what we wanted, when we wanted and the way we wanted.

MH: Not sure whether you know about such peculiarity of Belarus as not quite active usage of the native language in daily life, not to mention music. How do you think, where is this line, which musicians have to cross in order to make an “incomprehensible” language popular, like once Rammstein did?
Erkki: Well, it’s impossible to explain, I guess… It’s all up to the way lyrics (and performance) fit the music. It’s the man thing. At least for me they are inseparable.

MH: How do you spend your free time? Namely it’s free from what and for what?
Erkki: I’ve got three kids, work as a teacher, run my own business, constantly read, since I’m writing a book with my colleague, I’ve also got 60-70 shows a year. So, I don’t have that much free time, hah! But when I do – I have a rest at home, since I’m travelling around 100 days a year, thus I love just being home with my family.

MH: A creative person stays always creative. Tell us about your creative approach towards life apart from music.
Erkki: That’s a tricky question… I think that in daily life I’m pretty pragmatic. When you take part in many projects at the same time, you have to plan beforehand. And when you do, you need to concentrate. And in order to concentrate, you need a plan, so that other things wouldn’t interfere… Well, I think that’s it. You shouldn’t be afraid and should do what you think is right, make experiments. The main thing is doing as well as doing groundwork for action. With the passing time you’ll know other people’s opinions and get some feedback, you’ll discuss your projects, but the main thing – is doing.

MH: What experience would you like to acquire? Maybe, you’ve planned visiting Tibet, but postponed it until now, or smth. else?
Erkki: Currently, I guess, I’ve whether done everything I wanted, or I’m still doing. Let’s see!

MH: Don’t remember who was the author of the apt phrase, that idols don’t talk. Like one comes to the musicians after the show not for an interview, and has got nothing to say except for “thanks”, so no dialogue happens. Have you ever faced it? How do you normally communicate with fans?
Erkki: Neither me, nor guys have problems with that. We always communicated with our fans. Sometimes people just thank us or take pics, and sometimes they want to tell us more about themselves and the way our music and lyrics influenced them. It’s very important for us. It would have been boring without our audience, hah!

MH: And, finally, could you make up a playlist for us to listen on our way to the show of “Курск” in order to be in the mood?
Erkki: “Я свободен”, “Белорусский снег” and, probably, “Аллея Сталина”. A bottle of beer won’t be out of place either…

MH: Thanks once again and see you in our hospitable capital!
Эркки: Thank you, the pleasure is mine. See you!
