One could say that the time when shows of Marduk and Behemoth were canceled has gone long ago. Even losers of 2009 Cradle of Filth and Moonspell that failed to reach the Sport Hall, will come to our capital not for the first time. A thought crept in my head that one can finally clap one's hands and enthusiastically declare the fall of the Iron Curtain.
One could react this way but for some circumstances that occasionally happen in our media. Here are the main ones: The performance of Marduk on the festival the Flaming Arts 2012, where Swedes were allowed to come but strictly forbidden to propagandize from the stage. The second important episode in the history is Russian Satanist Tour from the band Behemoth, during which people promised to burn Adam Darski in public, but everything finished with arrest in Yekaterinburg and banished from Russia for 5 years. After such promotion in mass media there's no doubts left that the band won't be finally allowed to play in Minsk. Now next in turn is another representative of our western neighbours - Polish black metal band Batushka.
КOne could wonder what else can be invented in order to promote the band playing rather primitive music, that has been born in Norwegian basements in the late 80ths. It turned out that it's not about music. The main thing is the sophisticated acting of the band's members. Adam Darski has planted the seeds of evil in catholic Poland long ago and it marked the heavy scene of the country as anti-Christian and satanic. At the same time the author himself is bored by Behemoth, black metal and all its philosophy. Nergal nowadays is the participant of different contests like 'Voice of Poland', actor and just a stylish man that appears on Polish TV just as often as any glamorous boy making covers on Bieber. The last milestone of the work of Darski is the statement that he is recording a country album. But Nergal doesn't forget about touring activity with Behemoth, which despite the lack of ideas for a new album is still active. The most amazing thing in this situation is that Darski being a local pop idol, hasn't lost his fans in the world of metal. Behemoth's CDs and T-shirts are sold worldwide as fast as tickets on Taylor Swift's shows.
Going back to the project one can say that it follows the path of Adam Darski, which had paved it about 15 years ago. Nothing new that Russian activists see the signs of extremism and attempts to destabilize the situation within the country in the activity of the band. Plus Batushka doesn't reveal the cast of the band and hides under black cloaks. It escalates interest towards the band even stronger. The most active fighters against western satanism see in Batushka a side-project of Nergal, who tries to come to orthodox Russia that way and share with local metalheads his destructive views. The cover of the album with the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ who have distorted faces, has become a pretty good catalyst of promotion and further PR of the band.
Batushka is supposed to play in Russia and Belarus in May. The first alarming news came from St. Petersburg. The cultural capital of the friendly state categorically rejected to give a shelter to Polish preachers and youth seducers. The further- the more. Yesterday we've got the news about cancellation of Moscow show. According to the official statement of organizers, activists organized a meeting of 5000 participants in front of the club where the gig was supposed to be held. Nobody can guarantee security of musicians and audience under such circumstances. So there's no option left except for cancelling the show.
Nobody seriously told anything about the show in Minsk yet; organizers assure that it will take place and the tickets are available, but we still remember mentioned above Russian Satanist Tour, where the ship with seeds of satanism battered against the rocks of religious misunderstanding. There are less than 2 months left to May 29, but taking into account that the struggle for spiritual liberation from western extremism is in full swing, the decision whether Minsk show takes place will be made in a couple of weeks or even days... For those who still hope to see Batushka live, I'd recommend to consider the neighbouring Poland,  where the band plans tour Rzeczpospolita Niewierna in autumn; Behemoth will be a headliner and Batushka will be warming up the band.
